Covid-19 test

On this page, you will find information on applying for a coronavirus test, sampling points, and test result responses. First, read this section and follow the instructions.

Coronavirus tests are always available by appointment only. When booking an appointment, you will be directed to the correct sampling point.

When to undergo a test provided by health care?

In certain situations, it is still important to apply for a covid-19 test provided by health care. Apply for a primary health care covid-19 test if you have symptoms of an infection and in addition

  • taking a test has been recommended by a healthcare professional or
  • you with patients or
  • you belong to a risk group for severe covid-19 or
  • you are pregnant.

Note that you do not need to contact your healthcare provider or seek a test if your symptoms are mild and your general condition is good. Instead, you can then a covid-19 self-test. If the self-test is positive, we strongly recommend that you avoid contact with anyone other than those living in the same household for at least five days. If you have any symptoms of flu, we recommend that you stay out of work and school, even if your covid-19 self-test is negative. See instruct

However, if you experience severe symptoms such as shortness of breath, or your general condition worsens, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Before making an appointment

Assess your symptoms using the online service or the Coronabot online service. The services provides instructions on undergoing a covid-19 test.

The service and the Coronabot service can be used by those with access to strong authentication (bank ID, mobile certificate). A symptom assessment can be carried out on behalf of a child.

See Kymsote sampling points below. Samples from those covered by homecare services will be taken at the person’s home. Samples from residents of housing and care services will be taken in their home or place of care.

When you have booked an appointment for a coronavirus test, please be present at the arranged time.

Covid-19 test results

Please bear in mind that persons who have undergone a coronavirus test must stay at home until they get a negative result from the test.

Enquiries about coronavirus test results should not be made to the Medical Helpline or the accident and emergency unit. Covid-19 sample response times vary.

Getting the test results:

  1. Test results are reported in Omakanta and also by text message, if the person has given their permission. Text messages are also sent in the evenings and at weekends. The message includes further instructions.
  2. Note that all positive test results are not necessarily reported by phone calls.
  3. If there is no contact within four days, you can also inquire from your own health centre.
